What will it cost in duties to ship something from the US to Canada that I am declaring a gift worth $300? |
Does the shipper have to pay or does the person in Canada have to pay? I am filling out a UPS form and it is asking for a credit card number for "payments of duties, taxes, and other charges The receiving end pays the duties. If you check the "gift box" 60$ of the declared value would not need to be paid (in your case the Canadian would only have to pay duties on the 240$ not the 300$). In Canada we have 2 taxes, the GST and the PST except for Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick which have HST, Alberta which doesn't have PST and the territories that do not have GST or PST. Whew. GST is 6% and is supposed to be reduced to 5% July 1st. Quebec PST is 7.5% on top on the GST Ontario PST is 8% British Columbia and Manitoba PST is 7% Prince Edward Island PST is 10% Saskatchewan PST is 5% The HST is 14%. So, depending on where your friendly Canadaian lived he would pay either: 0$ in the territories 28.80$ in BC and Manitoba 26.40$ in Saskatchewan 14.40$ in Alberta 36$ in Ontario 33.48$ in Quebec 38.40$ in PEI 33.60$ in the Maritimes. As for the credit card number... I have no idea I've never seen that on any custom form I've received or sent. I would ask the postal worker. Glad to help :) Source(s): My brain, calculator and grade 2 math textbook |
