Why does WBZ's Bob Larson seem to stumble over "WBZ"? |
Ok, this is for Boston folks only. I have started listening regularly to 1030 WBZ. They have a weather guy on in the evening named Bob Larson. Every single time he signs off, he seems to stumble over the "W" in "WBZ". Everyone else says "WBZ" normally except for him. He gives his weather reports just fine, no accent or impediment or anything. What's with him? Is this some sort of signature he's deliberately adopted or what? He works for Accuweather which is in State College PA. They do weather reports all over the country and always throw in some little blurb as though they were in the area not hundreds of miles away. He may mispronounce the "W" in every station east of the Mississippi for all we know. Most of the others who talk on that station are local so they have the station name down pretty well. This guy is reading a script off a long list so that is why he stands out as different. WOW! It's been a long time since I've heard those call letters. I used to listen to WBZ as a kid with my parents. There used to be guys on the WBZ radio station named Bob Riley andLarry Glick. They had a theme song for Larry Glick. It was sung by a cute little girl. First couple of words was larry Gick Nick it was a good song. I can't get it anymore, but sure do wish I could. Once in a blue moon if I tune my radio in and it's a good night, I'll get it, but it's been at least 3 yrs. I live in Mercer, Pa. by the way. Sorry I couldn't answer your question, but I wanted to share that memory with ya. Have a good one. I think it's how he does his "w"s. Bob Larsen is an AccuWeather meteorologist who does a lot of forecast reports for many stations across the country. When I lived in Chicago he'd do the forecast for WBBM, and the W sounds the same there as here. |
