Anyone happy with their bank around boston, besides bank of america? what about sovergn?

I hate bank of america for a multidute of reasons...i live north of boston, and want to switch banks...there is a sovergn near me...anyone like them? what about citizens? i actually heard phone calls to them are diverted by the mob, and they steal your info

i used to be part of a credit union, and SUM atms's suck...the search function on their website sucks, and it is not easy to find a free ATM...you should be able to enter your specific address, and get results by distance...instead you can only enter your zip or city

Bank of AMerica is clearly the worst. Not even their employees can believe the horrible things they do to customers.

I had an account at Sovereign and they had a good attitude but very picky rules that made them unbearable.

I also opened a small account at Citizen since they had an office in the Supermarket that cashed checks. They said my account was free of charges but after a few months they started deducting $5 per month until they had sucked out all of the money in that account. Avoid them unless you are under 18 or over 65 or they will suck your account dry too.

Eastern Bank is not bad. They keep late hours, have low charges, and have a pleasant staff.

I have Citizens Bank. I have no complaints about them. I have student checking, no fees, and I have the Paypass Debit Rewards card.

I have no complaints. I've been with them for several months and switched from Bank of America. I manage my money quite well so I don't have to deal with overdraft fees.

I think if you use your card as Debit card you encouter fees; however, since I have a student checking account I haven no fees.

I don't know of any other banks because I try to go with a bank that is well known in the northeast with a variety of bank locations that are convient to get to. I know when I was looking to switch over from Bank of America that was one of the things that played a roll.

I know Eastern Bank does not have a lot of locations, Soverign Bank did not have anything I was looking for as in terms.

I know in the future Citibank plans to open branches here in Masschusetts. They're currently building a brank in downtown Boston. They're a well known bank; howver I know that since they're starting up in this locality that they might have a limit of branches and ATMs.

Good Luck.

Get out of the banks and join a credit union.

As a member of a credit union you are in a sense a shareholder, and are usually allowed to attend anual meetings to vote on credit union business.

your money is federal insured the same as it is in a bank.

There are usually less fees and better intrest on savings and loans.

I left the banking world behind back when Shawmut of Boston bought First Bank of Chelmsford.

I've never had any problems and always recommned Credit Unions over banks.

Check out Tremont Credit Union. They have excellent loan rates, very few fees, and lots of perks, especially if you use direct deposit. Also, any suspicious activity on your account they contact you very quickly, and on your request will flag your account and/or close and re-open new account if needed. I guess my card was one that was potentially compromised at a TJX location. I received notice before it even made the news. They have several locations around the boston area, and they are part of SUM network, so it's pretty easy to find a "free" atm.

I use Bank of America because it has the most locations and that's convenient for me, but my brother uses Sovereign and he's very happy with it.

I belong to TD Banknorth and haven't had a problem yet. They took over a local branch here in my town (North of Boston) and the switchover was really smooth. There are many branches throughout MA as well as the New England area. Check them out.
