After I got my watch battery replaced, my watch doesn't work?

I went to a local small jewelry shop to get the battery replaced in my digital running watch. I'd gotten other watch & calculator batteries replaced there before. When I picked up my running watch last week, it was "on" but is really messed up--I can't set it, and it just blinks.

It worked perfectly fine before it ran out of batteries, before I brought it in. So I went back to the shop and explained the situation. They said they'd look at it, and give me an estimate for repairs if it needed it.

I don't think I should have to PAY for repairs if they messed up the insides of the watch when they put the battery in. I said that politely, and they basically said, well, we didn't break it, so you have to pay if you want us to fix it.

I don't think this is right, but they won't budge. It's a $120 watch...should I stand my ground? If it's broken beyond repair, should I ask them to replace it? I basically have no actual proof that they broke it, though...

I AGREE WITH that betty boo...you need to report them...call the local Better Business Bureau and report them and alos see if someone else has too..if they have then that gives you more fuel for the fire...it costs I believe $25 to file a small claims in court..so i'd let them know that ...and stand your ground..I don'tcare if it was $2...if you brought it in in working condtion and it comes out differently then that's their problem....I mean they could have had someone new working on stuff that day..or even a pro can have a bad day...but if they want a good reputation..then as a jewelry store they shoudl be offering to fix it or even replace it because ya we know it's not a Movado but once again it's the point...then If they don't budge call the Attorney General's Office...they have someone who can direct you to the right place and can even look into it sometimes for you....I wouldn't let them get away with it or do it to the next person.....did they happen to say what was wrong with it and how it could have happened?!..unfortunately this is a lesson for the next time in life when you get something repaired or you buy something...save the receipt and make sure it works first...good luck

ask them to fix it for free

tell them u will call consumer affairs and do so if neccessary. They are so wrong....u could always get them 2 fix it and tell them u will pay, then once it is fixed tell them u want 2 look at it before u pay to make sure it works properly. Next step....walk out without giving them a cent and with a delited grin on yr face of course.
