Does anyone know about the old shopper's world in framingham ma? |
Does anyone know about the old shopper's world in framingham ma? I remember it existing from when I visited family in Framingham. Was there more detail you were looking for in your question? i have been to framingham (not the prison ha ha ha) several times and not sure what you are taking about Grew up in Wayland the next town over from Framingham. The old Shopper's World was the first mall in the US. It's anchor store was Jordan Marsh on one end and the Jordan Marsh basement store on the other end. Jordan's had a big dome top and inside, under the dome was a huge chandelier. The old Shopper's World was an ouside mall. Shaped like a rectangle, there were 2 levels. Some of the stores I remember was CVS, Friendly's restaurant, Hermans Sporting Goods (I think that was the name) Dr Pet (where my mother got her beloved puppy mill puppy - he died last year), Showcase Cinemas, Dress Barn and the obligatory music store (forget the name). At Christmas time, they had these 2 story nutcrackers stationed around the inside of the outdoor mall and Santa's reindeer on display. Also, in the middle of the mall, there was a fountain that pranksters regularly filled with soap so it was always soapy. To get from one level to the next, there were these huge ramps that you had to walk up or down to get to the next level. At the time of the debate to tear it down and put up the new Shopper's World, a lot of people, including the Framingham Historical Society, was not in favor of tearing it down due to the fact that it was the first Mall in the US so it certainly had some historical value. I worked at the Friendly's there when I was a teenager. When I was in elementary school, my mother did all of our back to school shopping at Jordan's. That whole area of route 9 has changed so much. I hope that answers your question! Yes, the egg-head building that was Jordan Marsh, which sold donut's too. That, and the open aired, two-floored mall. |
