Motel in Austin, TX? Week to week? Month to month?

I have just recently started a new job in Austin, and am staying with a friend until the end of the month. I am looking for a clean cheap hotel/motel to stay either week to week or month to month. I know in San Antonio I saw places that charged around 450 for month to month rent. I know Austin has a higher cost-of-living, so I expect it to cost more. I don't know how long it will take me to find a permanent place, but if it's only a little more expensive to pay week-to-week, that would help tremendously towards being able to move into a home once I find the right place. I am right now working in the area of MLK and Airport Blvd, and will be on call some nights, so it needs to be as close as possible. I also have family in SA, so south is preferable to north. Thank you very much for any help you can give me.

They're all over the place. Places like "Extended Stay," Resident Inn and others are clean and safe and offer such accomodations. Drive up the major streets near you and look for signs that say "monthly" or "weekly" rates. I'm pretty certain I've seen some older ones either on Burnet or Lamar, possibly both.

You might also be able to find temporary accomodations in a home via http://austin.craigslist.org

Good luck.

there's a motel call town motel on n.lamar and breaker
$135.00 per week after a month by law they stop charging taxes
look under executive lodging you'll get good prices and if you go to 183 and I35 there's an apartment complex call santamaria apartments $550 all utilities paid all !!!!

Lamar and Braker does have cheap hotels... This is located in the North. Lamar runs parallel to I-35. This isn't one of the nicest areas of Austin. "Extended Stay" is a good place. Craigslist always has people subletting on short term basis.
