Is it true that you can work at ihop at the age of 14? How about in Texas? Anyone know?

Actually one of my oldest daughter's friends DID work as hostess there at 14. It was the location near Lowes at 620 and 183. That was about 5 years ago, so I can't say if they are still doing it.

It IS legal, but getting a job at your age is tough because the employer is severely restricted in how many hours and which hours you can work so most won't bother.

Places you might find work at your age include:

1. Church daycares (yeah, they often pay someone to watch kids during services)
2. Small, family owned businesses.- maybe your folks know of someone who can use you?
3. Good old fashioned babysitting - heck $5 an hour free of tax deductions is BETTER than minimum wage ($5.15 hr) - taxes.
4. You might also be able to make a flyer and distribute in your neighborhood for odds jobs. Stuff like mowing lawns, washing cars and dogs, pet sitting, raking leaves, etc. My 11 yr old averages about $8 a car when he goes through the neighborhood with a wagon full of supplies and washes cars.

Call IHOP and ask the manager. You will probably still need a state worker's permit!
