I would like to know the daily rates for caring for newborns and small children in my home Depending on whether you are licensed or not you can have a different number of children in your home for childcare.
That being said, in south Austin for a good in home care group that I was looking at, there were five children. The caretaker fed the children lunch and two snacks per day, had a child safe home, and a small outdoor play yard The parent provided all other necessities.
Under those circumstances she was charging $250/week for children aged newborn up to potty trained, $175/week for children potty training up to school aged, and $100/week for after school care.
I DO remember she had a limit number of hours she could keep the children per her license and charged extra to those who left their children longer than agreed upon. "What Should You Charge And Why?"
The candidate selection process is critical to your success. Don't put yourself in the position where you haggle over price.
The type of Client you are looking to attract will have more on their minds than how much you are going to be charging...
The first thing a client should be looking into is your Character. The next is your Savy, Judgement, and Reliability.
You are not average, and neither is your program. You are not a non-profit organization. You are a for profit business and proud of it...
And guess what? It's Ok to let your candidates know this. There is only one way to find out what your market will or can handle when it comes to Childcare fees...
Please do not let anyone tell you what you should charge. This is your time, your home, your business, your family, and your reputation.
In order for you to be in charge with confidence you must be IN CHARGE!
Your Clients may even be so kind as to tell you what the going rate in your area is... How nice of them! Don't listen to anyone when it comes to pricing your service...
You don't price theirs' they shouldn't price yours!
You need to maintain a psychological attitude that will help you develop good fiscal management techniques. There are no laws or regulations that place a ceiling on what you can or should charge!
Think of it this way... How important is the quality of care? The child will be in your care for the better part of their waking hours. If it's only about the money you don't need this client...
More than likely a potential client who thinks this way will not make a good candidate for your program...
Anyone who allows someone else to set their rates has handed over the reins to that person.
You want to attract clients that will respect you as a professional.
Take the time to look!
There is a popular misconception among intellectuals regarding Childcare. This herd of independent minds will tell you -
"You cannot make a decent living working in Childcare!"
WHAT? Are you kidding me? Of Course You Can!
Make a few phone calls to the ads in the newspaper as if you were looking to place your child in a Home Daycare facility... You will find I'm right on the money on this...
The first step to becoming part of the solution for quality Childcare is to: CHARGE MORE MONEY! |
