Library Science degree in Atlanta area?

I'm new to the ATL area and I'm having a tough time finding a school nearby that offers a Masters degree in Library Science and Information (MLIS). Any librarians out there know of any?

Is the degree required to work at a high level in area libraries?

Clark Atlanta University offered an MLIS program but it was closed in 2005. The only remaining university in Georgia that offers an MLIS is Valdosta State - but that's down at the Florida border:

If you aren't busy on Saturday, you may want to attend this meeting at Emory:

Celebration of Education for Librarianship: Saturday, September 29, 2007. 11 AM- 1 PM in the Matheson Reading Room of Candler Library. This brunch welcomes Emory library school alumni and library friends to meet Rick Luce (Vice-Provost and Director of University Libraries) and to celebrate this new IMLS library education program.

"This project will offer students a substantial level of financial support (at least 80% of tuition and 100% of enrichment activity costs) as they obtain their degrees from the University of North Texas鈥檚 ALA-accredited graduate library school program within an Atlanta-based cohort. Students will earn their degrees on a distance learning basis without sacrificing the face-to-face contact with professors and peers that so dramatically enriches the MLIS experience. The project will establish a educational program that will be housed at Emory University鈥檚 Robert W. Woodruff Library in Atlanta."

Wow! That is a great help. I'm just reading this, so I missed the talk today, but I'm going to look into this Emory/UT program.

Thanks!!! Report It
