Is Macon GA a nice place to live?

Is Macon GA a nice place to live?

I've lived here pretty much my whole life (I'm 31) and I love it. That said, I know a lot lot lot of people who complain about what a lifesucking PIT Macon is and how they NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE, etc. These people are usually bitter losers whose lives have ended up in a different place than they thought, probably due to lack of effort put into actually doing something they love, so they are taking out their bitterness on the easy target of their sweet Southern hometown. Me, I have a great job doing what I love (teaching English), and Macon has everything I need - it's not too big, but it's getting big enough to have some cool things (Indian buffet, cool movie theater downtown where you can get beer, bars with musicians I actually want to see, coffeeshops, etc). Macon has great, rich musical heritage, and that's a cool thing to live near and soak up. Rent's pretty cheap here, the people (if you meet the right ones) are friendly and nice, the town's growing, there's delicious food to be had, and if you need to do some big-city stuff, Atlanta is just an hourish away on 75.

I have visited Macon but not lived there. A friend stayed there while taking some training for work. The impression I got was that it had some really nice areas and some not so great ones. It is "next door" to Warner Robbins which is a major military base area. Being in central GA it will be very hot in summer and generally mild in winter. There is a state college in Macon too.

I honestly don't think so. Atlanta is much nicer.
