My work is driving me nuts. I work for my boss then there are several professors under him. They bring stuff

to me for me to do. They usually do it when i am working on a big project. I can't get anything done. They tand around and talk, laugh joke when I am trying to work and I can not concentrate.
I am the only Office person here. I am so overwhelmed sometimes and just can't seem to get it all done.
Then the other professors bring stuff to me and oh my gosh why didn't you do this, can you do this? etc etc.
My salary is $30.500 a year. I do everything form typing letters, to payroll, to ordering supplies, checking toners, paying bills, acounting and making sure we have $ in our funds. Telephone records, copying, I have to take care of over 15 funds over 100k each along with all this small stuff. I have to help them with fax machines and how to work, and pull the information on this or that. Apply for this persons vi

My boss offered to hire someone part time to help with small stuff, but I dont have time to train them. Plus if they use my desk there is no other desk to work at

I hardly ever take lunch. The phone rings all day, and files need to be organized, trips to be planned, books to be bought. What to do? What should I do?

Some general advice here, based on what you've written. First, accept your boss' offer to hire someone, and ask to sit in on the interviews. Try not to let them hire someone incompetent by having questions about the work you want this person to do.

Once that person hires in, give them the work you need done and ask them to complete it with minimal guidance from you. Set a strong expectation that they will function independently for the minor tasks they have to do.

If the new hire won't be coming for a while or the workload is still to big, sit down with your boss and prepare a list of what you see that needs to be done. Get him to buy in to you refusing the workload of some of the other professors. I would recommend you target the work given you by someone who dumps a lot on your plate. You also should consider who is in tight with your boss and try to keep their work on your plate and make them happy.

Best of luck to you.

If it's not your job to do work for other professors, when they bring it in, just have it sitting in the same spot it was left at.

If you already have a full day on your plate from what you're supposed to do, do that and you're not going to have to worry about other work, you'll be too busy.

And get away from the office for lunch, even if you packed. Staying there and working for nothing isn't helping any.

Either they have 2 give u a pay rise...or het the heck outta there. Sweetheart u can get another job..which is less stressful and still get paid the same amount...why do u need the stress?
But seriously these bosses of ur's they sound like they are really taking advantage of u...! If some1 tried 2 do that 2 me...i'd tell them were 2 stik it!
Seriously either demand a payrise, tell the asses off...or just find a less demand..but more rewarding job.
I mean if u do everything...then how hard will it be for them to find a new ..efficient person 2 fill ur position? Huhhh c now that should do it..if they wanna play with u..well u play right bak..lol..
Goodluk and smile!

You need to learn to give realistic estimates of when people who come to you with work projects should expect you will be able to finish them.

Honestly, I think you should be glad you have a lot to do. A lot of people who work in offices sit around all day browsing the internet and trying to pass the time. It's good they're making you work hard.
